Pros:
Plenty of spin to bite on finesse shots, but still very long.
Cons:
A little short on durability, but worth it.
Rating:
I have been playing these balls exclusively for 2 years now, and have yet to find anything better. I have tried other 3 and 4 piece balls, but none have the same combination of feel, spin, and distance. I play the TP Red. ProV1x comes in close second.

Rating:
low stock currently as a new ball is coming but the next tm ball labeled " for the high spin player" ill buy it. i tried this after the two for 55 deal and am hooked. really kept ball flight down but feels great off irons and is long on driver (probably due to ball flight) TP RED

Great Ball

by rboehl on October 05, 2009
Pros:
Long, Soft , One Hop Stop!
Cons:
Nothing bad to say.
Rating:
I have been playing the Red TP Ball all year and I won my league easily this year with it. I use to play the ProV1 but tried this when I found one and I had to get some more.

Best ball on the market!

by AcesAZ on October 06, 2009
Pros:
Long + great feel + right amount of spin + durable + great price = Perfection
Cons:
They might discontinue these with the Penta coming out
Rating:
This is the perfect ball for my game. I find it very long off the driver but durable off the wedges. This ball rocks! Well done TaylorMade!

TP RED LDP - It's the "All Around" players ball

by manbearpig on October 07, 2009
Pros:
Soft feel, plenty of backspin, low driver spin and trajectory, wind performance, durability
Cons:
Soon to be discontinued
Rating:
I needed a ball that checked all the boxes the 07 ProV1 did for me and in my search found the TP RED LDP.
My first test in store is to grab a ball and roll a few with a putter close to mine. Good soft feel off the putter - check.
Then to the course:
Doesn't ballon with lower trajectory - check
Cuts through the wind - check
Sucks back plenty on the greens without being ridiculous - check
Last at least one or more rounds....
Well I think you see where I am going with this.
Lastly I need to add a few more thoughts:
-Long off the driver
-Roll out nicely and consistently off the putter
-Low driver spin
-Can be found for a great price

Taylormade TP Red - Best Bang for the Buck

by Dan Lau on October 21, 2009
Pros:
Price; Durability; buttery soft feel off the putter; performance in wind;
Cons:
doesn't spin as much green side as Pro V1;
Rating:
I played ProV1 and Pro V1X for a long time before switching to the Taylormade TP Red. The reason I say cheap is I buy them slightly used. They can be had online at www.lostgolfballs.com in the AAA or AAAA quality for less than a dollar a ball.
Performance:
Driver:They are as long or longer than the ProV1 off of the tee. For a player like me who imparts a ton of spin and fights a slice as the miss, this ball is a godsend. A 20 yard out of bounds slice with a super high spinning ball like the ProV1 will turn into a 10 yard fade that lands in the rough. It also tends to roll out farther due to less spin.
Irons: I still get plenty of spin off of all my approach shots. My golf balls now tend to hit the green and stop within a foot of the pitch mark. Before playing a higher spin ball, I would get a few yards of back spin which I didn't really like as it was unpredictable for me. Now I just find the distance to the pin and fire.
Wedges: the one area these golf balls lack in performance is they don't check up nearly as well on chips and pitches. I would say that for a 15 yard greenside pitch, this ball probably runs out a good 5 to 8 feet more after it lands than a ProV1. The municipal courses I play don't have super fast greens that require a lot of spin. If I was playing a course with hard, fast greens that didn't take spin, I would probably go to a higher spin ball.
Putting: this is the NICEST feeling golf ball off of a milled carbon or stainless steel putter I've ever felt and I've played with Nike One tours, ProV1/V1xs, callaway IXs..etc. It is buttery smooth and has a consistent roll out. A lot of the other balls are either clicky or spungy on impact which makes it difficult to get your distance control down. The TP red is perfect for putting.
Overall: Great ball for a good price. Does everything I need.

TP Red LDP

by bioman on October 23, 2009
Pros:
Distance, low spin, feel and value
Cons:
Thin cover and lack of big spin off wedges
Rating:
Good:
Extremely low spin off Driver and Irons
Soft Cover and Feel off Putter
Good greenside bite on full to short chip shots (don't expect some crazy backspin unless you have an extremely fast swing speed)
Distance off Driver and Irons is superb, just as far as 2-pc Distance only balls/rocks
Great price for a premium ball
Bad:
Lack of bite when you want it (most shots will hop and stop)
Cover is thin, so it shreds with a full shot, but not as bad as others
Pro's far outweigh the con's. Overall, this ball is truly the best premium ball for the money.

Great Balls - Great Price - No Wonder Sergio Gets the Ladies!

by double-d on October 24, 2009
Pros:
Great combo of feel, price, distance, durability and spin. Great looking graphics and the tournament double-digit #'s rock.
Cons:
I think my wife still loves Sergio more than me.
Rating:
OVERVIEW: I started playing the TP Reds when I switched to a Rossa putter - I kind of have this weird thing that the ball has to match the putter brand. But I think that's going to change with this ball, because I don't want to ever change it. I switch to the Taylor Made because I'm a homer and a Sergio fan, and I thought that I if I told my wife I played the balls Sergio did it would be good for me... she loves him... I continued to play the '09's this year, all year... really the first year I've been exclusive to 1 ball forever. Really really suprised by this ball. Was gaming the Titleist Pro-V's (when I was putting with a cameron), then switched to Bridgestone's for a while (and they didn't match my putter, so they didn't work and they really underperform compared to the Taylor Made).
PRICE: Tried a whole bunch of the TP Reds and TP Blacks this year with the 2 For $55 deal. HINT: If you go to Walmart you can get one box for 1/2 the $55 ($27.50 for the math challanged.) You'll never catch Sergio in Walmart, so you won't feel like him buying your balls, but maybe you'll feel like him on the course. If you go in with your head down no one will notice you. The golf balls are way in the back and that store is freaking huge, so its a bit of a hike - but you won't be disappointed. In that $24-$34 catagory you have balls like the Bridgestone E6,7+ etc, and Titleist NXT, etc, all vastly inferior to Taylor Made TPs which I believe fully justify the Prov1 Callaway top shelf pricing. For me the TP is a better ball all around, in every area.
WEDGEPLAY: I love to hit wedges and fun shots around the green - I usually cost myself a fewshots by trying to hit a miraculous wedge shot from 25 to 50 yards that land close to the hole and spin close... so the shots usually end up 20 yards past. This ball really bites - I can hit those shots with confidence. Low chips with a 2 degree vokey will bounce onceand grab. Especially the blacks. From 80-100 yards you can really try to be precise with your distance because it will stop, or if you want to hit a spinner you'll havea ton of fun, because you can make these zip (and they don't shave.)
PUTTING: People always talk about true putting balls - I've never really believed one ball rolled straighter than another, especially with the crooked strokes 99% of golfers put on their ball... but these look great when you address the ball, feel great when you stroke the putt and roll as 'true' as any other. The graphics and lines and numbering inspire confidence over the ball, and that along with the audible feel are the 2 things that matter to me when putting. I really like the red/black print.
DRIVER/WOODS/IRONS - Off the driver or woods this ball flies far and cuts thru wind. I also believe the bad hits, the ones you know you double crossed or let leak way right with a terrible swing, don't seen to duck or banana as much. Tayor Made did something right with the technology in drag and driver spin here. I was absolutely bombing the ball 15-20 yards further than usual last week... then I realized I'm a knucklehead and was playing a Taylor Made Burner distance ball that I must have found in the woods or hit the wrong ball when the hot beer cart girl rolled up, and not the Red... I switched back to the Red. (note, the beer cart girl did not confuse me for a stud Spaniard with either ball, nor did my wife when I got home). But with the TP red back in play I realized it that I was bombing it that day for some reason. These balls are great and really fly. The ball feels really good off the mid and high irons... have no idea what they do off a low iron, haven't hit one of those outside a punch out under a tree in a couple of years.
SUMMARY: If you're on the fence and want to try, I suggest you take a dozen of black and a dozen of red and see what you think. The black spins a bit more, but the red stops great too. Distance is comparable for me between the 2. I do take a lot of pride around the greens so I need a ball that feels great and again looks great (I know I'm weird, but hey guys are visual, my wife must be too because she loves Sergio, luckily she wasn't visual when we were dating).
I truly believe this ball goes further, feels better, looks better and spins more than the Pro-V1. If price matters to you the $27.50 special makes this a no-brainer. When the special ends I will still stick with this ball over the other top shelf balls. I think the Taylor Made TP reds arethe perfect golf ball for me, especially at the $27.50 a dozen. Looking forward to trying the new Penta.

TP Red better then ProV1

by zorblack on October 29, 2009
Pros:
Bargain at 2 dozen for $55, Spins/Bites, rolls nice on putts
Cons:
Normal price, possible discontinued, needs a little more cover strength
Rating:
4 Stars at normal price/6 stars at 2 for $55
This is the best ball I have ever played. What else can you say? Straight, bites, long, nice roll of putter. The only shortfalls are the price & the cover could stand a little strength. There will be some cover damage after 18. Scoop them up at 2 for $55.

Best bargain ball of the year

by ph00ny on November 03, 2009
Pros:
Price
Distance
Spin
Feel
Cons:
Durability (pretty much every premium balls are similar)
Rating:
I took these out for a test drive in a windy condition and i still hit bombs. It might have been the fubuki setup but i was hitting them far and long. Short irons shots landed soft with plenty of feel. Specially for the price they're currently going for, it's a steal imo

Awesome Ball for a Great Price!!!

by Bwadd on November 17, 2009
Pros:
Long off the Tee, decent action around the green!
Cons:
Little less spin around the greens.
Rating:
A friend of mine ordered these with his custom number on it (69) and gave me a sleeve to try out at a tourney. I ended up shooting a 38 on the back 9 which was my best ever with back to back birdies. I was impressed!

TP RED is great

Pros:
Bomber off tee
great spin
Cons:
None
Rating:

HC 10
Bombs off the tee with low spin. The feel is great on this ball, not overly spinny like some other premium offerings but I think its a perfect amount. I lose confidence without this ball. I highly recommend to someone in the premium golf ball shopping world. Try the Burner TP for a cheaper version with good results

Great Ball!! Nice feel!

by gee2626 on November 17, 2009
Pros:
Feel, Spin,
Cons:
None
Rating:
My girlfriend bought me a box of TP Red for my brithday. She doesn't know much about golf, so she asked a worker at the local golf store for advice. He recommend these balls, in which I am very greatful for as these are great. I had previously never used a Taylormade ball before, so it this was going to be a new experience. I generally only use Titleist Pro V1s. However, after a few rounds with these balls, I was hooked. The distance and spin were on par with the pro v1s, but the real selling point for me was the feel. I love the feel of these balls, so soft! Putting and shots around the green have improved mainly due to the feel of these balls. Thanks to my girlfriend and the worker at the golf store, I am now a convert to Taylormade golf balls.

Run don't walk to buy these balls!

by danimal on November 17, 2009
Pros:
Amazing performance for the price. Bye Bye ProV.
Cons:
Yeah it's last years ball but if your not Sergio do you really need the Penta?
Rating:
These are great balls period. Now that TM is rolling out the Penta series these can be had at ridiculously low prices. Sponsors of GolfWRX are often blowing these balls out for 19$ a dozen.
It's become my standard ball. All the performance of the ProV at half the price. They are so cheap now that I don't even bother buying witner balls anymore. In genreal I play the TP Red for the main season and play the TP Black when I need a little more carry or the conditions are not condusive to roll for any ball.

TP Red LDP's rock..........

by sevenfourate on December 06, 2009
Pros:
Feel,Trajectory,Distance,Spin,Flight in cross-winds,Availabilty.
Cons:
Price,Durabilty
Rating:
I switched to the very first TP Red available (From ProV1X) as soon as it was released. All round performance was certainly slightly better for me in every department with no detractions at all.
However, the TP Red LDP was a massive jump in performance for me and as ive stated before ".....is the single biggest improvement in my game due to an equipment change". Period.
Performance is awesome, and i have no thoughts or doubts in my head over what the ball is capable of.If i can produce the swing the ball will perform.
Distance is a good as any other premium ball for me,but in with that i get a lovely low,wind-cheating ball-flight and good release upon landing. Incredibly i then also get a great feel and control around the greens.Yes this ball has it all.At first i wasnt readily available and you had to stock-up when you could.Even thats not the case now as its pretty much available everywhere....
Its not a perfect World though, and there is one minor detraction to the TP Red LDP's. The durabilty: Its not terrible but not great either.I guess thats the trade-off of a performance golf ball.

Nice ball. But pro v1 is better.

by Morty17 on December 06, 2009
Pros:
Good feel and distance.
Cons:
Cover is weak. Callaway MD groves shred ball!
Rating:
I was happy with this ball off the tee and on the green. Nice soft feel and great spin.
The cover was the weak link on this ball. One shot with my lob wedge and the cover was shredded, much worse than the pro v1 and tour i.

Love the seam!

by be_right on December 10, 2009
Pros:
Long, great feel, great price and I like the seam.
Cons:
None for me.
Rating:
I am a fan of the older Pro V1 that had the seam which you could line up for the traj. you wanted from the tee. I don't know if it's a mental thing, but "seaming" the ball always made me feel like I had an advantage in windy conditions. Lining up the seam in line with the target was said to deliver a lower traj. and less spin. I am so happy that a ball as good as the TP still has the seam. I also like to line up the seam on putts without looking at a side logo when putting. Great all around ball and TaylorMade is fairly rare on the course, so people don't pick them up when crossing over into my fairway.
I prefer the TP Black...it feels a tab bit more firm and delivers a nice solid click on well struck iron shots. The Black also gives me more distance in windy or colder conditions. The Red is great on hot, calm days when the greens may be getting firm and more bite is needed.
As said in an earlier post, this is a no-brainer when considering price and performance.
