Titleist Pro V1 is the #1 Ball in golf!!

by BridgestoneRX on October 06, 2009

Pros:

The Pro V1 is great! Solid off the tee, Best trajectory and spin control I have ever seen, and this ball is MONEY off the putter

Cons:

The only problem is it wears quick compared to Taylormade Balls.

Rating:

WOW! This ball is a mix of ALL! This ball is the best of the spinner premium balls off the tee. It rarely does balloon, which is a first. Very soft ball, but not mushy at all. Trajectory is the best with this ball. I can hit it really high (not balloon high), or hit it 3 ft off the ground! Can be worked fairly easy, whether it be a high draw or low cut. This ball is far superior from Z-Star, Tour i, etc. around the greens. I love the way it checks and stops with flops. The Flopadopolis shall live!!! Did I mention this ball is MONEY off the putter. Butter soft. No ball is even CLOSE by a country mile in feel off the putter. The only con is the durability. It has impoved since previous models, but still below Z-Star, Tour i, etc. Still a great ball. 5*****!

Pros:

Spins fast, you can brag to your friends

Cons:

Cost, durability

Rating:

Titleist is the #1 golf ball.  But whats in the name is marketing.  This ball is highly overratted.  Yeah it checks up; lots of balls do.  After your first iron shot or wedge though and this ball will have cuts in the cover.  I swing my irons in the 90mph range.  Everytime the grooves cut the balls cover.  I've had a couple tear the cover.  Balls approaching $4 a piece should last longer then 3 holes.

Unless your a pro who gets paid to play the ball, and recieves them for free you can do better.  Don't fall for it because of the prestigious name.

Fun to find them, hate to buy them

  by highergr0und on November 02, 2009

Pros:

Spin

Cons:

Expensive

Rating:

This ball is the standard.  It's great around greens.  I pretty much like playing these on the practice green more than on the course.  It's fun to make those chips bite and the feel off the putter is quite nice.  It's not the longest, but the spin will get ya off the driver.

Bottom line... If I find them, I play them, but I would rather play a little less spin for a bit more control.  I'm not a pro.  I'm also not rich and only play them when I ind them.

Hands down best ball made

by golfstud on November 23, 2009

Pros:

Great distance. Great spin and feel. Great durability.

Cons:

Cost

Rating:

When I'm playing good (ie not losing balls), this is my ball of choice. Without a doubt the best ball made. Price is obviously up there, but if your strokes aren't coming from too many lost balls, I can't see playing anything else. (Besides maybe the NXT tour).

Best ball for Feel and Spin

  by luckydevil66613 on December 03, 2009

Pros:

Love the feel and spin

Cons:

Too easy to tear up, cost

Rating:

Honestly, i would probably use Pro--V's if i didn't tear half the cover off within 3 holes. The pros use them for a reason and it's because they are the best feeling ball on the market. And if i got as many as i wanted for free, then i would use them too! lol. Just can't fork over $43 for a dozen of these when i know i will be using a new ball every 3 holes cause the cover just isn't durable at all.

Everyone knows this is a top ball.

  by sti23 on December 15, 2009

Pros:

Great spin.

Very soft.

Dances on the green.

Cons:

Expensive.

Not very durable.

Rating:

I did a review for the Pro-V1x, and this review will be similar if not the same because they are very similar, but different (if that makes sense). You usually don't find me purchasing a box of Pro-V1's or Pro-V1x's at the store.  There are cheaper options online, but even then, I find it difficult to pay that much money for balls.  However, if you look around or purchase the previous year's model, you can save a good amount of cash.  Personally, I play the Pro-V1's that have "PRACTICE" stamped on them.  I find them to be the same but at almost half the price.

For this review though, I used a Pro-V1 from a sleeve that my friend gave me.  I'm not sure how effective these reviews will be for these balls.  Usually people know the name "Pro-V1" and they buy them because they know that they perform. However, I'll give my 2 cents.

Impressions:

This ball was very pretty out of the box.  I read that it was supposed to have more spin than the Pro-V1x and less durable, but from the outside, everything was the same.

The ball felt nice off the tee, but did not seem to be outrageously longer than other balls. In fact, it almost seemed shorter than the Pro-V1x. This ball does punish you on bad swings.  The extra "side" spin does not help a slice or hook (something to think about before purchasing). Although, you could do like lots of people, and play this ball and fix your swing instead of finding a ball that will cure your slice.  Losing one of these balls will motivate you more than anything to fix your swing.  It's like losing a limb when you see one of these fly off into the trees.

From the fairway, the ball felt very soft.  It just felt like the ball would explode off the clubface and it was like hitting a rubber ball almost.  It felt great.

The ball has that buttery soft feel all the way down to the wedges.  Again, I didn't notice much difference in distance, but the one hop and stop would make anyone buy this ball.  On full wedge shots, it would spin just a bit more than the Pro-V1x, but nothing too crazy.  It's a very controllable ball.

On chip/pitch shots, it was almost like the green was magnetized.  I couldn't get much forward roll out of it.  So I had to basically go straight for the hole every time.  If you land it near the hole, chances are you'll be at a close distance to it, which is great.

I'm not sure if you've ever putted using a "no-spin" hard as a rock bargain ball, but it's like putting a rock.  You can really feel the softness of the ball when you putt the Pro-V1.  You don't really have to exaggerate your putting motion to go the distance you want.  This helps you develop a feel for your distances in your putting stroke much easier.

After a round of play, the Pro-V1 was in "used" condition rather than brand new conditioni like the Pro-V1x.  After wiping it down with a wet towel, I noticed a few marks on it, however that could have been because of my spin milled wedge.  But it was not as noticable on the Pro-V1x.

The Pro-V1 is an expensive ball.  With expensive, comes added performance.  This ball sure did perform like it was expensive.  I think if you can afford it, it should be the ball to play.   If it's too expensive, then there are great alternatives out there that are cheaper and will perform just as great.

Overall, I love this ball.  Although maybe not from the stores, you'll always find my bag with a Pro-V1x or Pro-V1.

Awesome ball, hate to buy 'em though

  by slanger62 on January 02, 2010

Pros:

Great spin, great distance and great feel. Amazing all around ball

Cons:

MAD EXPENSIVE!

Rating:

It's awesome to find these, but I don't think you'll find me spending 45 bucks for 12 balls....Kinda crazy. They're the best ball, my team gets the for free every match, but I can justify buying them.

2011 pro v1

by bigbutch on June 19, 2011

Pros:
best ball made. Longer, tougher, and just the right amount of spin.

Cons:
Does not stay glossy as long as I would like.

Rating:

It's the best ball made. It does cost a little bit more than most. I got some because A friend gave me one and I liked it so much I bought some. I'm only referring to the 2011 ball. They are very durable. Some of the 2 piece balls I hit scuff up with the wedge. Not so with the Pro V1. They also fly a lot straighter than the old balls. It will hook and it will slice, but if hit solid it goes straight.
