Callaway FT9 TA "Tour Authentic"
Product Details
Pros: Shape is excellent, size smaller, hot LOW spin hight launch. Long is what comes to mind.
Cons: Tougher to stay straight
Bottom Line:
We loved this head right out of the gate. After a few days we realized it was one of the longest setups we have ever tested. There was a something different with this head than many of the others. Low spin and high launch. Hit the ground running. Sound is very muted. Same muted one might get after adding cotton or rat glue to a head to mute it. Very good sound.

Callaway FT9 TA "Tour Authentic"

We love this head and am very hopeful it comes to retail. This head will be a hit for lower handicappers and others that have a more consistent swing. The lower CC's make the MOI on this head lower than the retail FT-9 but the swing speed and ball speeds are on the up. We have noticed average of 3 mph swing speed increases (not ball speed) over the retail larger 460 cc heads with the same setup. Smaller pear shaped deep faced head, muted sound and a hot face makes this head one of our favorite tested. Callaway staffers on tour are all over this option.
Come on Callaway launch this to retail ASAP!!!
Product Description
This is the new FT-9 TA (Tour Authentic) that has been so popular on Tour this year. Phil, Ernie and so many Callaway staffers have chosen this head for the LOW LOW LOW spin and the higher launch. 440 cc head is smaller than the retail FT-9 and also has the hosel. The knuckle balls this head produces has allowed for quite a Buzzz around.
Here is a video from the Callaway tour van a couple of weeks ago about the FT9 TA we took...

FT9 TA- the Potential Holy Grail?

If you are a solid ball striker looking for a low spin, high launch driver, the FT9 TA deserves a very strong look. In fact, some may say that this driver approaches holy grail status. Other than the graphics on the sole plate, this does not look like your fathers Callaway driver (or even the current FT9 lineup). The head is a classic pear shape, deep face, with- yes its true- a real hosel. Unlike the standard callaway offerings, this club has a traditional full length hosel. Apperance is very clean and inspires confidence. In the performance category, the club plays better than it looks. First impression was the sound. This sounds nothing like existing callaway drivers and is more "smack' than "boing". Ball flight was mid to high in a piercing trajectory with more than enough roll. Benchmarked against an FT5 with the same shaft, this club was 15-25 yards longer. From a workability perspective, this club will go where you want it to. Draw, Fade, Straight. It's all there. The smaller head size does not make it an MOI monster, but it is no J33r either. There is a sufficiently large sweet spot to be had with this club, and heel / toe hits still yielded excellent results.
If you can get one in your hands, find the right shaft, and don't let it go.
