Product Details

Pros: feel, playability and looks are awesome!

Cons: Mishits of the blade will remind your human

Bottom Line:

Great option if your looking for a blade that will set you apart from the crowd. Black finish with a weight in the back so you can adjust the weight. Sole grinds and head size make these blades some of the best options in our opinion. We call this the modern blade.

Adams Pro Black MB Irons

Reviewed by: Justin "Mezmorize"

Ok guys, you have seen my pics of the new Adams MB black irons in a previous post but I wanted to give a seperate the review. Little history on myself. I have been playing Callaway blades for over 1.5 years and have loved every minute of it. I had a short run with the new Callaway X forged 2 but switched back to my blades (X forged 2 also a great set). The Callaway blades are extremely good irons and are produced in one of the finest forging foundry's in the world (Endo). I absolutely love my Callaway irons and still do so it is going to tske a great set to change irons. I am a forging ho and I know by the look of a clubs plating or feel which foundry a forged club is made. I have played every exotic club available more then once I am sure. I am VERY VERY PICKY ABOUT FEEL! Adams golf was nice enough to send me a set of these Adams Pro Black MB heads with adjustable weight port. I have always been an Adams irons fan and Hybrid fan since the A tours and original Pro Hybrids. When this set arrived in the mail and I opened the box my first impression was WOW WOW WOW! This is a dream set of irons looks wise and option wise. I loved the black finish and shape. The weight port was an awesome thing for me since I have to have heavy iron heads. My Callaway heads weighed about one club heavier per iron then a normal set. Swing weight's around D6-D7! I had stocked 3 sets of the Callaway tour issue Red neck Forged blades which is the heaviest set available. The red sets are tour only so this leaves the option of ever using a retail set out of the question for me. I have access to get this stuff so no big deal but if someone out their needs a set of heavy heads they are pretty much out of luck if they can not get a tour set. Oems these days use lead tip plugs in the ends of shafts to add swing weight which is the worst way to add weight to a golf club. It makes the club play terrible causing the toe to be flippy. Adams did it right putting the weight in the correct posistion (behind the ball).

First impression! As I mentioned above they where very impressive when I opened that box. I loved the look, loved the finish and pretty much everything about the iron. The feel of the finish I was a bit skeptical about just do to past sets i have ad in black that did not feel well or they looked great and felt horrible. Most black irons look cool but I have never had a set feel great. I have always wanted a black iron but the things never feel good. The shape of the set was stunning. Nice topline, sweet sole all the way around a great club. The weight port was very cool but concerned me a little bit but I soon found out for no reason. I will touch on that below.

Looks = The black finish on this set is really sweet. Best way to describe it is a non glare satin type black chrome. I have played 2 rounds and practiced once since getting them. Shape wise this set is extremely nice. The top line is thin but not to thin. The sole is perfect for pretty much all type of turf (please see my original pictures showing the sole). As you can see below comparing them to the pro golds they are similar in size with a thinner top line and less offset. The sight lines are colored in with a silver metallic paint just like the paint fill on the back of the head. The paint scheme looks very clean.

Feel = As I said above I am a feel person. I love Miura and Endo but I am more so an Endo person. I love my Callaway blades. I do not know who is forging this set for Adams but they did a great job. This set feels absolutely fantastic! A true fine forging! Very solid, softer but slight click feel. I was very skeptical about the feel do to the black finish and the weight port. I know company's are supposed to test things out things like this but my past experience from sets that have had any type of black finish have felt harsh. Not this set. The black finish feels great! I also thought the weight port was going to cause a problem with some sort of vibration or dull the feel. This also was not true in the least. If I hit this iron not knowing this club had a weight port their is no way you could tell one is present. I am really impressed by the forging and the way they incorporated this weight port. Not only do we have a cool looking black set but it feels good. Feel wise this set passed the test. This combined with the looks and man you have a hell of a set.

Playability = This set is a very easy to hit muscle back in my opinion. I have been playing a smaller blade for a long time so this is a walk in the park for me. We are still talking about an MB but we are now talking about an MB that could be played by a player that would play a players CB. I have taken comparison pictures of the pro golds and the MB's. Heel to toe they are the same length. Top line is slightly thinner on the MB's but that is just asthetics. The sole on the sets is similar with the MB's just being a touch thinner but same shaped. The offset is slightly less on the mb's which is another thing that is more of a preference thing. Offset can help a higher handicapper but when you are playing a forging of this nature whether it is a players cb or a larger mb it all boils down to preference. I did not find the MB's to be any more difficult to hit then the Pro Golds. Lets face it when you are talking about changes this small the forgivness is not much. When you are hitting it good you are hitting it good at this level fo golf club. If you are playing an iron such as the pro golds, X forged, Rac tp 2005 etc I do not see any reason this set would not be able to be gamed. It will be nice to have a set that can be weight adjusted without lead tape. That is the key feature about this set. I have heard the retail sets will come with BLACK KB tours which will look awesome with the black on black. If you do not know about the KB tour shafts just do a search they are everywhere. GO ADAMS!

All in all Adams has done it right. I have decided to take my ever so important Callaways out of the bag to replace them with this set of Adams beauties. I love the option to be able to change weights. They are easier to hit then the Callaways and they feel every bit as good maybe a bit better. The mishits sure feel better! I forget to touch on something....The finishes durability. The durability so far seems fine. I have hit about 50 balls with my 7 iron and the finish is holding up good. I am not sure if this is actually a black colored plating or if the carbon steel is colored black. I am leaning towards a black colored chrome. Judging by what I am seeing I think these bad buys are going to be pretty durable. No matter even if the black fades off on the face that is pretty expected. I am so excited to be playing this set. I had 5 people ask me about these at the course today. They look so sweet in your bag. The black finish just looks so cool! I hope this sums it up for you.

Short but to the point review

by bllefkay on November 04, 2009

Pros:

Looks great - nice shape.

Cons:

Unable to buy single irons (i.e. 3 or GW)

Rating:

-Cool looking sticks

-KBS shafts seem a little soft for stiff

-Don't feel as forgiving as previous owned sets (Mizuno, Hogan, Powerbilt)

-Trajectory (mid) is same as previous owned blades too.

-Don't get me wrong, the irons are nice and if you can get them for  around $600 then go for it ($999 retail in my opinion is way too much for these).

Adams Pro Black MB Blades

by golfjer on January 07, 2010

Pros:

Stunning look, amazing workability

Cons:

Distance is lacking.

Rating:

The first thing you will notice is the black look, with the custom made KBS Tour Black shafts as well... amazing and an easy 10/10 for looks.

Then you will notice the centerweight on it's back, fade, draw, huge draw, slice? No problem!

I first thought it would be hard to keep it straiht too but then again I was wrong...

Didn't really get to try them for real as I haven't tried real shafts in them, stiff was a KBS at least a DG s300 woulda held it a bit but this thing is like a R400 :)

So yeah I guess distance wasn't great neither, playing it with same lofts as my current irons, there was a 15yds drawback which doesn't interest me that much, just like Nike TW's :)

So at last I would like to say, good work Adams, sweet iron you just made, but needed more options as well as 1-2 irons with this kind of high launching shaft to impress the galery :)
