Product Description

Callaway's Tour models are designed for more accomplished golfers with features that provide greater versatility to attack the course with precision shot-shaping and trajectory control. The 450cc head incorporates a deep face with a smaller footprint. Combined with a full length tour hosel, an open face angle and less face progression, the driver has the look at address that is preferred by highly skilled players.

Lighter, faster, stronger. It’s what makes the all-new Diablo Octane Driver a revolution. Fueled by Forged Composite, a unique new material from Callaway that allows superior distribution of clubhead mass, compared with all-titanium drivers. The result? A lighter clubhead that retains an extremely high MOI. The Diablo Octane Driver powers drives beyond those of its all-titanium predecessor, the Diablo Edge Driver, by an average distance of 8 extra yards. Experience the most powerful driver ever imagined – the Diablo Octane Driver with Forged Composite.

Forged Composite is the result of a unique partnership between the R&D teams of Callaway and supercar maker Lamborghini. Forged Composite is one-third the density of titanium, yet features a greater load carrying capacity per unit mass in bending. The Diablo Octane crown contains 10 million turbostratic carbon fibers – 500,000 per square inch – set with six tons of force during the forging process to reinforce 33 percent of the clubhead. These ultra-light, thin-walled components result in lower total head weight and optimized mass properties that make the Diablo Octane Driver lighter, faster, stronger.

Callaway uses Hyperbolic shaping and a unique chemical reduction process to strategically remove excess material from areas of the titanium face and achieve precision thickness control. This produces consistently high ball speeds for long distance, even on off-center hits and on shots hit across all areas of the face

Project X shaft- The longer, high-performance shaft is designed with feedback and input from our Tour pros and is the ideal complement to the Diablo Octane Driver to maximize performance and enhance feel. The increased overall club length helps you achieve greater head speed and more power at impact in the Diablo Octane Driver.

Rating:

I've struggled with my driving all season.  Previous weapons over the last 3 years have been Tour Burner, Tour issue R9 & Tour isssue R9 Superdeep BBLB all 9.5.  Burner was too lite, the R9 was very generous in terms of sweetspot, the superdeep less so and I find the Octane just right.  It may be the balance that its a 450cc head when compared to the R9 which is 460 and the superdeep is 440.  I have tried both previous with various shafts, Oban, Matrix, Fujikura and Project X, so I can't be accused of not trying.  The Superdeep I hit regularly towards 300 but too inconsistenly and this is where the Octane is in a class of its own, It is very generous with very respectable distance.

It sits square at address and feels solid similar to T910D2.  The flight is medium which suits me as I play a lot of links / wind golf.

The club has just been dropped in price and it suited me to try it as I felt this was the correct shaft for me and it is give or take half the price of a R11or Razr Hawk.

The 70gm shaft with mid flight has the right balance of being solid but still gives you room to work the ball a bit, very quick handspeed might think it is too soft with 4.8 torque.

I hit 12 of 14 fairways yesterday and the 2 I missed the were in fairway bunkers. Shot level par for the 1st time this season, so I'm happy with it so far.

Cruisepilot,

3 H'cap
