Idea Pro 16* and 20*
by Aitch on August 27, 2009
Pros: Great looks at address and very workable.
Cons: None...yet.
Rating: These are the best hybrids I have played. Before these, I played the Nickent and IMO the Adams are better. The 16* has an ozik altus shaft and the 20* has the proto by you shaft. I have found both hybrids easily workable...high, low, left, right...all easily achieved with these clubs.
Pros: Great looks, long and straight, big confidence booster.
Cons: Geared toward the better player
Rating: I love the way the club looks, it's a very attractive stick. The lack of offset and stout, heavy shaft both fight the hooks, which is a problem I've had with other hybrids. Hit my Adams 3h about 20 yds farther than my 3 iron and with more accuracy.
Rating: Have only hit a few hybrids in my life, but this one has the best solid feel, and does not seem to draw as much. Could be because of the By-you 85g stiff shaft, which may be a little much for my smooth swing. Good accurate club.
Still the stick by which all other hybrids are measured. Great performance, feel and I like the shape a lot more than the newer hybrids out there. Great options too with all the lofts they make and EXCELLENT stock shafts available.
Workable. Long. Gives me a super-high ball flight for coming in on those long holes.
Cons:
Not that great out of the rough. Stock shaft did not work for me.
Rating:
First off I would like to thank Adams Golf for making this great club in LH in several lofts. I have the 2, 3, and 4 iron. I bag the 3 and 4 every time I play because they are great clubs, but yet have some drawbacks. The good thing about this club is that it is forgiving for those who have trouble with long irons (dont we all) but do not have a bulky head with alot of offset. This club inspires confidence and gives me a super high ballflight that i can work both ways if i want to stop it or roll out as a driving iron. I found the stock shaft to be a bit soft to flex so I switched it up and have had great success with this club. My one problem with this club is that I get some popups out of the rough because it is a shallow faced club. Also, as exhibited in the bobby jones commercials, thick rough can grab the square faced hybrids and have a negative impact on the shot. This only applies in the thick stuff but it still is a drawback. The club has a great look but unfortunatley the swingweight screw in the bottom comes loose all the time, and they do not give you a tool to tighten it. I improvised to fix this problem, but it is still an annoyance if it happens on the course. A final note - one of the best looking/working headcovers out there.
I gamed these for awhile, in multiple lofts and with different shafts. I hated looking at the 2 tone top--drove me nuts. The head is nice and compact and is versatile from many different lies. Very easy to hit and good feedback on mishits. I just couldn't stand looking at the top.
Best hybrid shape for playability and versatility.

Pros:
Great balance, visually very pleasing, compact but forgiving, workable
Cons:
Made for Adams VS Proto+ only looks like the real thing.
Rating:
For the price you cannot beat the Adams Idea Pro, it has one of the best shapes of any hybrid I have ever tried. It doesn't feel like a fairway wood like some hybrids tend to. Nice compact head is forgiving enough to play like a hybrid, but workable enough to pull off shots when you need to. The only minus is the Made for Adams VS Proto+ shaft they went to, it launches the ball higher than an actual Proto and does not have as tight a dispersion. I reshafted mine with an NV 105-S and it performs like a dream ... really long, workable and forgiving.
Just like the new Black Pro version, i gave this a shot. Never liked hybrids because i would hook them all so badly it was ridonkulous! Tried the Pro version and was amazed that it actually was fading slightly! Great find for those who actually like hybrids and want one that doesn't only go left. Personally i just can't get over the look of hybrids or the feel of most of them. To each their own though!
Nice ballflight, easy to work, great from a variety of lies.
Cons:
Two-tone crown.
Rating:
I use to play a lot of competitive golf and I hit a lot of long irons off of the tee. Now that I don't play as often I was looking for something a little easier to hit than my old 2 irons. About two years ago I tried out the Idea Pro. It was the first hybrid that I was able to hit well (it seems to be very iron like, which is a big plus for me). I like the small head and the stock VS Proto fits my swing very well. I carry the 20 degree version and it works perfectly as a 2-iron replacement. I love that I can hit it much higher than a two iron from the fairway and I don't seem to lose any accuracy with it off of the tee. I like that it has almost no offset. The only thing I don't like is the two-tone crown, but over time I have gotten over it.
Description PGA Tour Inspired: Tour feedback has led to a more blunt toe and symmetrical shape for an appealing look at address. More Offset: Promotes a square face at impact, preventing slices and making it easier for directional and trajectory control. The additional offset also frames the ball more like an iron by positioning the leading edge closer to the hosel.
