Expected more from my first club from Titleist...
by Rastafari Is on October 18, 2009
Pros:
Great look at address
Cons:
Tinny sort of sound, overall just "psyched" me out.
Rating:
I'm not quite sure what it was about this driver but every time I stepped over the ball, I felt like it was going anywhere BUT the fairway. Maybe it was the brand name that psyched me out but it was soon replaced with my trust Callaway FT-3...
Picked up the 907D2 with V2 stiff 66g shaft. I was coming from the 905S series which had a compact head and heavy thwack feel on impact.
Feel - the 907D2 had a very tinny feel that was not what I was expecting nor did I grow to like. The club looks nice and sets up square
Distance - Shaft combo had a solid trajectory. Distance on center shots was great. However any off center hits I was greatly punished. I felt I was losing big yards on my off days, but my good swing days I loved this club. Ended up switching to a TM Burner TP for more forgiveness and Im glad I did.
I would look elswheres for a driver, or go back to the 905 series or up to the 909.
This was a very straight hitting driver. Liked it better then the 909 drivers. Shallow face, long heel to toe. It was long but not forgiving on mishits. IMO, most of the modern drivers hit it about the same when nutted. It's what happens on mishits. This club is fade biased which was the opposite of the 905R's which loved to hook.
Straight and easy to work the ball. Pretty long with the speeder
Cons:
Odd sweetspot placement ..not the longest driver out there. Muted feel
Rating:
This was my first driver with a premium shaft and it did not dissappoint. I went from a stock shaft Srixon Zrw to this driver and I instantly gained 20 yds of roll. I could swing hard and the ball would stay online. The great thing about this shaft is that it does not balloon but the head itself I believe is pretty spinny. On a launch monitor it was a good 500 rpm higher than my Adams 9015d. Still I hit a lot of fairways with this driver. I decided to keep it as a backup for those off days/week...lol
Pros: Sits really nicely at adress, a little bit open.
Cons: Feels dead, almost never sounds solid.
Rating:
If you dont mind the sound and feel, overall a good driver. Definitely not for the high handicapper, my mates claim it is a lot shorter than their drivers (taylormade burner)
